Currently Coveting!

As soon as I saw this photograph, I needed to post it. I literally stopped what I was doing and wrote up this post minutes ago just to share this little piece of fashion awesomness!

Burberry Prorsum Spring 2011 TrenchThis is one of the most gorgeous trenches I’ve seen since I first laid my eyes on this one a while back. I’ve seen many variations of this coat in stores recently, but they don’t compare to this in any capacity! Which brings me to my next point, if you would like to donate to the Get Melissa This Burberry Trench Fund, please contact me by email! :-)

Signs of Spring!

Not so long ago, Mother Nature played a mean little trick on us and gave us a taste of spring… right before she threw us right back into the bitter cold of winter! Ever since then, I’ve been dying to shed a few layers and strut my stuff in my new recent purchases. Shoes, shirts and skirts… I’m ready for spring! So while we are waiting for the grass to get green and the flowers to bloom, fashionistas are already embracing spring by baring a little skin and wearing bright pops of colour to welcome this much awaited season! Check out a few of my fave looks!

What’s Been Going On

Lately I’ve been neglecting my blogging duties. Changes in my life have left me feeling less than inspired. Thankfully I have fantastic friends that have been there for me through all my moods, supporting me and never letting me forget that I am still loved by all of them. Time spent with good friends, a little retail therapy and taking the time to treat myself have all contributed to making this weekend absolutely fabulous.

I welcomed the weekend with brunch with an awesome group of girls at Byblos Le Petit Café, a delicious little Persian spot! If you live in Montreal and have never heard of it, I seriously recommend you discover this hidden gem. While most rave about the feta omelet served with sweet bread and homemade jam, I can confirm that this is indeed a delicious way to kick off the weekend. Add five awesome girls and entertaining conversation and you got yourself a fantastic time!

A little shopping was in order to take advantage of the gorgeous weather and help me digest my meal. I was able to get my hands on a pair of red Toms that I’ve been wanting for a while… at 25% off!

Since spring is in the air, but not quite here yet, I sprung for fresh pink flowers for my living room. Tulips, my favourite!

Pretty pink tulipsSaturday night we celebrated my friend’s birthday with a huge dinner at La Sirene, a delicious Lebanese feast! Such a big feast in fact that I woke up Sunday morning still full. A croissant fresh from the oven with a side of strawberry rhubarb jam and dulce leche was the perfect start to a relaxing day!

Missing Elizabeth Taylor

The world woke up this morning to the sad news that Elizabeth Taylor had passed at the age of 79. She was an icon of film, beauty, style and elegance. The “most beautiful child actress in motion picture history” began her career legendary career at the age of 12 and went on to earn countless Oscar nominations, steal the hearts of many men and collect what could possibly be the most dazzling (and impressive) jewelry collection.  She was glamorous, she was caring, she was an icon, she was Elizabeth Taylor… and she will be missed.

Coveted Closets

Yesterday marked the first official day of Spring! Yay! I’ve been waiting so patiently for it, waiting for the day when I can put away my heavy knits and start pulling all the new pieces I bought for the warm weather. So yesterday, I spent a good part of the day doing a little Spring cleaning, which also included my closet. Now, me and my closet, we have a love-hate relationship going on. I love my closet with all it’s colourful clothes and bags, however I hate that i know it could be better organized. So what’s stopping me? Well when you live life as a renter, the possible modifications to your home are always kept to a minimum.

I was going to share a few photos of my closet to show you guys what I am dealing with, but instead I decided that it’s much more fun to look at these chic closets and dream! Plus they serve an great inspiration!

Pretty Delicious!

Over the past few tears, I have developed a love affair with cooking. I’ve taken time to learn different skills and experiment with merging different flavours to create dishes that my friends and family can enjoy. Although I indulge in the occasional decadent treat, I usually try to cook using fresh foods as much as possible. So I was thrilled when I discovered the Stiletto Chef. And I was even more thrilled when I heard she was coming out with her very own cookbook!

Pretty Delicious by Candice Kumai

I have never done a book review on my Website. But I love this book so much that I had to share it will all of you. The Stiletto Chef is Candice Kumai, former Top Chef contestant, Cook Yourself Thin co-host and fit model, and now author of her very own solo cookbook, Pretty Delicious Lean and Lovely Recipes for a Healthy, Happy New You. Oh, and did I mention she is a Cordon Bleu trained chef.

The book promises to abolish diets forever (eye roll) – a claim that we have hear time and time again. But after browsing the glossy pages of yummy recipes, you start believing it! Candice offers advice on eating well while keeping your wallet and waistline in check, and give us an overview of FWB (food with benefits), a concept I adore! Each recipe is made with all natural ingredients (no processed crap here!) and highlights what the FWB are in each dish! And I can’t tell you how good it feels to eat something that tastes so good knowing you are doing something good for your health and body.

The best part is the variety of recipes! Breakfast, soups, salads, sandwiches, fish, side dishes and even desserts (peanut butter cups anyone?). Bonus! There is even a section at the end showing us how we can use the foods in our pantry to make us more beautiful on the outside.

I have made so many recipes from this book (like this, and this) and I can safely say that this is my favourite cookbook. It has taught me so much more about eating right and has also made me discover new foods that I wouldn’t have ordinarily tried. The book itself is oh so pretty, with its glossy pages and fantastic photos of most of the delicious dishes. Each dish is annotated with its nutritional information, and I love the tips that pop up randomly throughout the book.

Whether you are a cooking newbie or just looking to add another book to your culinary collection, I highly recommend this book! It’s packed full of delicious information that will make you feel beautiful inside and out!

Delicious Pad Thai!

OMG! I can’t believe it! After so many attempts of eating it so many ways, I am finally eating tofu! I know about all the health benefits of it, and I’m all for the added boost of protein it provides, but until now I’ve never enjoyed it, not even fried. Then I came across this recipe for pad thai (I love pad thai!) and it changed my life.

Pad thai

Made from natural ingredients rather than the usual artificial crap we find at the grocery store, this is a super delicious way to enjoy it without worrying if you’ll still be able to strut your stuff in your skinny jeans later. A few suggestions? Add the optional cilantro and almonds. That fresh taste+ the crunchiness of the almonds = pure yumminess! You can even add a few red pepper flakes if you prefer your pad thai to be spicy!

Bon appétit!

The Return of Kate at Louis Vuitton!

Are you keeping up with Paris Fashion Week? Well, if you are, then you probably heard about the fabulousness that hit the runway at the Louis Vuitton Fall/Winter 2012 show. Not only was the show gorgeously inventive, but it also featured some of our favourite catwalk queens, including Naomi, Natasha and my favourite, Kate Moss! And to make her “comeback”, Miss Moss strutted her way around the catwalk smoking a cigarette… and history is made!

Aside from the fashionable faces on the runway, the Louis Vuitton show was filled with gorgeous couture that (I feel) should have a place in my closet.  Including, but not limited to…

… this navy pea coat… and the yellow bag…

… this cute jumper… and the bag…

… this high-waisted skirt, the boots, and of course the bag…

… this, well, everything!

Everything here too!

These gorgeous patent leather shoes!

These high-waisted hot pants and killer shoes/boots! I have a feeling we might see Rihanna wearing these very soon.

This cute dress with the peter pan collar (minus the feather duster).

This shimmery top, and patent leather shoes, and bag. And that’s it… that’s all I ask for!

And in case you missed it in the video, here’s a snap of Kate Moss claiming her spot as runway royalty.

John Galliano’s Final Collection for Dior

John Galliano may have got himself in quite a pickle over the past few weeks, but one cannot deny his talent when it comes to designing clothes. Dior’s ex-creative director’ final collection for the fashion house was showcased at Paris Fashion Week. Although he may have a potty mouth, Galliano’s collection was nothing short of extraordinary. Beautiful fabrics, gorgeous colours, luscious textures, all came together to create a glamorous collection that is sophisticated, yet so pretty. If you happened to miss it, here it is in all it’s glory.

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies

There is nothing better than a simple recipe that is so satisfying. For example, take these peanut butter chocolate chip cookies. They take only four ingredients and 15 minutes to make and they are so yummy!

Peanut Butter CookiesI was sitting at home the other night with quite the craving nagging at me. So I looked around my pantry and found a jar of peanut butter with this recipe on the back label. Sweet! I whipped these babies up in 20 minutes! I added a few chocolate chips (just for fun) and voilà! Yummy peanut buttery goodness right out of the oven. And if you are feeling a little more oink oink, you can also do what I did…

Peanut butter nutella cookies… that’s right! A dollop of Nutella smooched between two peanut butter cookies = pure peanutty chocolaty heaven! Don’t judge me, you know you want some!
