Katy Perry has done it, so has Lauren Conrad. In fact, a lot of celebrities have been caught doing it. Get your mind out of the gutter, i’m talking about dip dyed hair! Personally i’ve always loved the look of dip dyed hair on blonde hair when done lightly. But being the classic brunette that i am, i’ve never ventured into bright color territory when it comes to my hair because i didn’t think i would get the same bold results… until now! During the holidays, I received the Anastasia Beverly Hills Hypercolor Brow & Hair Powder kit to review. How exciting! I could finally see what my hair would look like with colourful highlights.
Let’s start at the beginning – What is Hypercolor? It’s intense colored powder that can be applied to brows or hair for an instant flash of neon colour without dyeing or bleaching. It sets easily with hairspray and washes out with regular shampoo.
These compact neon colours are available in 5 shades – Electric Blue, Ultra-violet, Teal Tornado, Mega Watt Green and In The Pink – and are extremely pigmented for great color payoff. They are meant to be fun and temporary. The best thing is that they are not chalk, which can not only dry out and mess up your hair, but also make it really difficult to achieve that deep vibrant shade.
Even though they are extremely pigmented right out of the compact, I still had my doubts that the colours would be as intense on my dark brown hair. But, surprise surprise! The colour was beautiful and bright.
The colour was super simple to apply. Simply section your hair, apply a little hair serum or leave-in hair conditioner to the section you want to colour, and apply the colour by swirling hair in the compact. Finish with a few spritzes of hair spray to set the colour and voilà! Beautiful, bold colour! One word of advice though, it can get really messy so applying this while wearing your most perfect outfit right before running out the door probably wouldn’t be the best idea. Another thing to consider when wearing these is that you have to wash your hair before going to bed, unless you want to turn your pillow (and probably your face) into a technicolour mess, which can be kind of a hassle after a night out.
All in all, I adored playing around with these fun and vibrant shades. I don’t see myself wearing them very often… except maybe the pink from time to time. But that’s just my personal style. I do, however, recommend Hypercolor to anyone who wants to rock bold neon highlights without the damage or commitment of traditional hair dye.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Hypercolor Brow & Hair Powders are sold individually for $16.25 CAD and are available online on the Anastasia Beverly Hills website.
