Winters just aren’t what they used to be. I remember as a kid there was always a ton of snow with the last storm occuring sometime in April and the temperature always seemed consistent. Nowadays, one day is cold, the next is warm; then we’ll get 30 cm of snow, and just a few days later it rains and it’s gone. As a result, my skin and lips are suffering from winter bipolar disorder (the results which occur when mother nature doesn’t know wtf she’s doing). Luckily, my obsession for lip balms has helped to ease the suffering and dryness of my lips during this cruel and harsh time of year.
At any given time, I usually have at least 2 or 3 lip balms stashed in my purse (I can’t help it, it’s an addiction). So soothing and protecting, you can catch me swiping one on multiple times a day. A few of my favourites include Rosebud Perfume Co. Rosebud Salve and Rosebud Perfume Co. Strawberry Lip Balm (I also keep the Minted Rose scent in my desk drawer at work). Each add a perfect hint of colour to your lips. I’ve also been OBSESSED with EOS lip spheres. They are so moisturizing and have a light scent that makes it a pleasure to apply. Plus, they are quite the conversation starter! Here they are in Summer Fruit (red), Sweet Mint (teal) and Honeysuckle Honeydew (green). Finally, I can’t talk about lip balms without mentioning a new favourite, the Fresh Sugar Lip Treatments. I orignally got these as a birthday perk from Sephora and I’ve been hooked ever since. Although they are a little pricier than most balm, they definitely score brownie points with me for including SPF 15.
~ SOFT LIP TIP ~
Psst! I’ve recently discovered the secret to scoring soft, kissable lips even during the harsh winter months.
When winter starts to leave its mark on your dry, chapped lips, turn to this little trick to have a perfect pout in minutes. All you need is a moisturizing ointment (I love Aquaphor Skin Protectant Ointment) and a disposable mascara wand (generously provided to me by my beloved makeup artist at MAC). Start by applying a generous amount of the ointment to your lips, really pack it on. Next, use the mascara wand and gently rub your lips for about a minute or so to slough away the dry flakiness (ewww!). Finally, use a tissue to wipe away the excess ointment and voilà! Beautifully soft lips!
