Karl Lagerfeld did it, so did Jean-Paul Gaultier, and many many other designers. Now it’s Marc Jacobs! The designer joins a long line of designers who have lent their creativity to Coca-Cola as creative director of the drink’s brand. Jacobs designed a collection of three unique limited-edition bottles, each beautifully adorned with playful prints, to celebrate Diet Coke’s 30th anniversary!
About the project, Marc Jacobs says that the reason the project appealed to him was because it embodies what fashion should be. “I despise that old-fashion notion that fashion needs to be exclusive. It’s far more modern to cover both ends of the spectrum. Andy Warhol once said, ‘The great thing about Coke is that Nancy Reagan’s Coke tastes the same as yours.’ Everybody’s Coke tastes the same. I don’t like that ivory tower of fashion, that snobbery. Things should be honest. There doesn’t need to be compromise.”
I am in love with the couture bottles. And even though I don’t drink soft drinks, I would sacrifice to be able to have one of these. Sadly, they aren’t available this side of the pond. Until then, I will admire them from afar (or try to figure out a good reason to travel to Europe). Let’s ohhhh and ahhhhh at them together, shall we?
