I have something to admit… I am an e.l.f. Cosmetics virgin. Despite the great reviews I’ve seen and read about the brand, I’ve never strayed from my favourite, MAC. So when the cool girls at Nail Polish Canada contacted me to review a few products of my choice, I jumped at the chance. My picks – the 32-piece Studio Mini Endless Eyes Pro Eyeshadow Palette, the Mineral Eyeshadow Primer in Champagne, the Studio Small Angled Brush and the Studio Contour Brush.
When I first saw the price of the products, I wasn’t expecting much. We live in a world where quality is often defined by price. So would e.l.f. Cosmetics stack up to the pricier competition? Let’s find out!
The 32-piece Studio Mini Endless Eyes Pro Eyeshadow Palette ($9.95 CAD) is a beautiful collection of earthy and colourful shades that include matte and shimmery textures. The palette also includes a mirror (not shown) and a double-sided eyeshadow applicator. This sleek palette has just the right combination of shades to take you from day to night. I am most impressed with the pigmentation. Although the shadows are not as pigmented as my beloved MAC shadows, they provided a good dose of colour that was easily buildable and blendable.
The Mineral Eyeshadow Primer in Champagne ($4.95 CAD) is a pretty rose gold shade that swipes on easily and leaves a subtle shimmer to the lids. I could even wear it alone during the day for natural polished look. Layered with eye shadow, it does a great job at keeping shadow in place and creaseless all day. Although it doesn’t have the thickness of the Urban Decay Primer Potion, it is definitely a great alternative if you don’t wan to spend the money.
The Studio Small Angled Brush and the Studio Contour Brush (both $4.95 CAD) are two of the basic brushes I think every girl should have in her beauty kit. The contour brush is perfect to add definition to the crease while the angled brush is ideal for applying eye shadow or liner. The bristle are super soft and don’t shed (like I was expecting them to). Plus, they can be used for wet or dry eye shadow.
Just to give you an idea, here are a few swatches of a few of my favourite shades from the eye shadow palette and the eye shadow primer (on the far right). These photos were taken near a window to give you a look at the shades in natural light. Some of these shades actually remind me of the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette!
e.l.f. Cosmetics are definitely worth the money (and more)! The shades are beautifully pigmented and last a long time, even without the primer. The brushes are sleek looking and match up to my more expensive brushes, as does the Eye Shadow Primer. Overall, I give e.l.f. Cosmetics a thumbs up!
