Mother Nature has finally decided to let go of winter and grace us with the warmth of spring. Ok, so it’s not exactly “warm” yet, but the past few sunny days have given us hope nonetheless. With that in mind, I’m starting to (re)visit my favourite bronzing products to get a healthy glow (no one likes pasty white legs come skirt season). While some are new discoveries and others classic faves, all will give you perfect colour without the harmful effects of the sun.
Ahhh, Chanel! Can you ever really go wrong with Chanel? Soleil Tan de Chanel is the most perfect bronzer to transition from spring to summer. The shade is beautiful and universally flattering on all skin tones since the colour is buildable. You can use it to contour, but I prefer to use it all over my face to add a warm glow all over. I use a fluffy brush, swirl it around in the product, dab a little on the back of my hand and apply using circular motions. I also love to apply it right where the sun would hit my face (cheeks, forehead and nose) for a sun-kissed look. Plus it smells light and wonderful!
My latest glowing discovery happened during a Clarins event for the launch of their latest little jewel, Addition Concentré Éclat (a.k.a. Radiance-Plus Golden Glow Booster). Packed in this tiny vial is a concentrated self-tanner that, when added to your daily moisturizer, gives your skin a beautiful, natural looking glow. Just add 2-3 drops of the concentrate to your regular day or night moisturizer, smooth all over your face and neck and voilà! In a few hours you’ll notice a warm glow on your skin. Each day you can add up to 3 drops to deepen your tan or just maintain the colour. It doesn’t get any easier than that!
San Tropez Bronzing Mousse has been on everyone’s lips when it comes to self-tanners. After a few years of using it, I have to say that it is still one of my favourite sunless products. It’s so easy to apply. Just apply a few pumps of the mousse to the San Tropez mitt (I highly recommend you get the mitt for the best application) and smooth over your legs, body and arms. It can also be applied to the face, though it’s best to use a foundation sponge for the most perfect results. The dark mousse makes it easy to see where the product is applied, making it almost guaranteed that you’ll always end up with an even, streakless tan. The colour is deep – one application gives you a tan worthy of days in the sun – and gorgeous.
My list of favourite sun products wouldn’t be complete without my favourite sunscreen, La Roche-Posay Anthelios Mineral. We all know that sunscreen is a must to avoid wrinkles, dark spots and skin cancer, but the sticky white mess that’s usually at our disposal makes it less than desirable to apply. Anthelios Mineral is a tinted sun protection with SPF 50 that offers broad-spectrum, sheer coverage that melts into your skin, leaving behind a veil of protection against the sun. Its formula is frangrance-free, paraben-free and safe for sensitive skin. It’s quite possibly the best facial sunscreen I’ve ever used.
Happy (safe) tanning!
