It’s might be winter outside your window, but I’m already dreaming about spring and summer. A few weeks ago, I had the wonderful opportunity to meet with the fabulous Patricia and Kevin from Faulhaber Communications, along with a few select beauty bloggers from Montreal to discover the spring-summer 2015 collection by essence cosmetics. We had a great time swatching lipsticks, testing eye shadows, all while drinking wine and eating delicious food (if you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen it go by). I mean, an afternoon of wine, food and makeup? Count me in!
I wasn’t familiar with essence cosmetics so this really was a discovery for me. I loved the colours and the formulas of each product and was surprised to hear that the price points were so affordable (seriously, there isn’t one product over $5). I am so pleased to give you a first look at the entire spring-summer collection, as well as my thoughts on each product.
Long Lasting Lipsticks
Look at these colours! These long-lasting lipsticks are creamy and light. They apply beautifully and give great colour payoff. The colours literally lasts for hours, but don’t dry out your lips. They are generally unscented, but if you are picky, you might notice a slight sweet scent. They are available in 13 vibrant shades, including these pictured above (left to right): Oh So Matt! | Love Me | I Am Yours!
XXXL Shine Lipgloss
If you like shiny glosses, these are for you. These glosses are super moisturizing without being sticky. The doe foot applicator provides just the right amount of gloss to your lips and is very comfortable. The shades are beautiful and right up my alley. Cute Lips (left) is a shimmery pinky nude perfect to go with a more intense eye look, while Fabulous Fushia (right) is a vibrant fushia shade (as the name implies) that can be worn during the day or night. Both have a slight sweet scent.
3D Eye Shadows
Before I get into the details, can we take a moment to appreciate the beautiful packaging. These shadows are so gorgeous. Two-toned with the wave effect, I couldn’t stop looking at these shadows. When it comes to inexpensive shadows, my experience has always been that the cheaper the price, the cheaper the quality. But these have me re-evaluating all that. Even though these are powder shadows, they have a creamy texture that glides on smoothly. The colour payoff is amazing and intense, with one shadow being more metallic and the other more shimmery. If you love even more intense colour, these can be applied wet to give you just that. They are available in 6 shade combinations ranging from neutrals to jewel tones. Smokey Eyes Set
A smokey eye in three easy steps, that’s the Smokey Eyes Set. Like the other shadows, the formula is soft and velvety, and applies beautifully. It includes three shades – light, dark and highlight – that blend easily to give you the perfect smokey eye. The palette is available in 2 shades – Smokey Day, a collection of browns and neutrals, and Smokey Night, pictured above.
Metal Glam Eye Shadows
These shades have spring written allover them. These shadows are metallic and shimmery and so gorgeous. They are less pigmented than the other shadows but easily buildable if you are going for a more intense look. They are available in 8 shades, including (left to right) Hello Goldie! | Choco-Chic | Are You Grey? | Sparkle All Night | Sugar Mint Candy
Plump No Clump & Lash Princess Mascara
Plump No Clump mascara is just that, a mascara that plumps up your lashes without leaving clumps behind. The large elastomer brush grabs the right amount of products and distributes it evenly on your lashes from root to tip to give mega volume. I love these types of brushes because they don’t cause your lashes to stick together and leave you with that dreaded spider lash effect. It’s available in Black and Ultra-black.
I can’t get over the packaging. So girly! Lash Princess mascara not only gives you volume, it leaves your lashes with that fluttery look that most of us girly girls love. The brush is curved to grab on to each and every lash and deposit the right amount of product. This may just be my new favourite mascara
2 in 1 Eyeliner Pen
I have to admit, sometimes I like it thick, but others I prefer thin. This eyeliner makes both super easy. This eyeliner has two sides – one with a thin tip for ultra-precise application, the other is a chiseled slated tip to create a thicker line. I like to use the thick side to create a dramatic effect and perfect the line and winged tip with the thinner side. Each side mimics a felt-tip marker to give an intense liner look. The formula lasts all day, but easily washes off with a regular cleanser.
There’s a whole lotta new stuff happening in the nail department. Let’s start with the Effects Nail Polish. Available in 8 shades, each as shimmery and sparkly as the last. The collection includes the shades above (left to right) Rock My World and Never Stop Dreaming, and other effects like glitter jewels, sparkling sugar, denim and polka dot, combined with bright colours like pink, turquoise and red.
The Gel Look Plumping Coat jumps on the bandwagon of the gel manicure. This top coat gives your nails the high-shine look of a gel manicure without the complicated machine or expensive salon appointment. The formula is great – it visibly plumps your polish, fills in any ridges and gives your nails extreme shine.
If you’re into nail art, the Glow in the Dark Nail Art Stickers are for you. Enhanced with a glow-in-the-dark effect that only comes out at night, it’s a unique way to get your nails noticed.
The spring/summer collection is all under $5 (amazing!), and will be available in February at Shoppers Drug Mart and Pharmaprix locations across Canada.
