Happy New Year!
I love this time of year. It’s a fresh start. An entire year lies ahead filled with hopes, dreams and possibilities. How can you make it exceptional? While I’m not completely convinced about the whole idea of New Year’s resolutions, I am convinced that writing down your intentions can somehow plant a seed in your mind and keep them at the forefront of your thoughts, making them even more likely that you will follow through with them.
I came across this interesting list of intentions that I thought I would share with you. I invite you to do the same and share it with me too. What are your intentions for 2015?
My 2015 Intentions
A bad habit I’m going to break
Swearing. I don’t swear a whole lot and it usually depends on my surroundings, but being able to control those times that I do it unconsciously is one of my goals. I might even do the whole swear jar thing just to keep me motivated and on track.
A new skill I’d like to learn
Knitting. I remember knitting with my mom as a kid. Of course back then I didn’t really know what I was doing and ended up with a bunch of potholders. This year, I would love to learn proper techniques and create something beautiful.
A person I hope to be more like
My mom. Always smiling and looking at the positive in everything, my mom is the most beautiful person I know inside and out.
A good deed I’m going to do
Aside from just generally finding opportunities to help others (holding the door open, helping someone cross the street, helping a woman down the stairs with her stroller, etc.), I plan on taking an honest look at my belongings and donating what I don’t need. It’s all about adopting the less is more attitude. Yes, even when it comes to my closet. I plan on assessing what I have to keep the pieces I really love and donating the rest.
A place I’d like to visit
Narrowing down my list of places I would love to visit is nearly impossible. There are so many places I would love to go, things I want to see. Greece and Spain are on the top of my list. One thing is for sure, each and every vacation I take this year will be to a place I’ve never been before.
A book I’d like to read
The Great Gatsby. I fell in love with the movie for so many reasons (yes, Leo is one of them). The story is so intriguing and romantic even though there’s no happy ending. Since then, I’ve wanted to get lost in the pages and immerse myself in the glamorous world of these characters.
A letter I’m going to write
A handwritten note to a friend I haven’t spoken to in a long time. Sure, it’s easier to send an email or message through Facebook, but think of how you would feel if you received a handwritten note from someone you love. Priceless.
A new food I’d like to try
There are so many new foods and trends emerging in the culinary world. Instead of picking just one, I would rather have the intention to try something new each time I go out for dinner or try a new recipe each week.
I’m going to do better at
Keeping in touch with my friends. So many of us lose touch with friends by not taking the steps necessary to keep friendships alive. One phone call, one letter, one text message even is all it takes to see how your friends are doing and create stronger bonds with those you care about most.
