When it comes to skin care, I’m all about prevention. Sunscreen has been a part of my daily routine for more than 10 years now and the condition of my skin is proof that planning ahead works. But here’s something you probably didn’t know – back when I was in my teens, I had the horrible habit of fake baking (gasp!). Once or twice a week, I would lie under neon lights hoping to achieve that perfect glow (oh the ridiculous things we did in the name of beauty). After a few years, I started to notice spots and other weirdness on my skin, which launched me and my wild imagination into a future that included leather-like skin and a really bad tan. That was enough to change my habits.
Today, I do everything I can to keep my skin in shape. Besides eating clean and drinking tons of water, that also use the right products for my skin. I am a HUGE fan of Dermalogica products and use them regularly. My most recent discovery is the Overnight Retinol Repair. This little gem is the BEST thing to treat wrinkles, fine lines and uneven skin texture thanks to a good dose of retinol, vitamin A, vitamin C and peptides.
The Overnight Retinol Repair combines 0.5% retinol and pure vitamin A, which when combined, work together to reverse the signs of aging. Retinol does many wonderful things to the skin, like accelerate cell renewal, stimulate collagen production, improve epidermal thickness and increase skin elasticity. But unfortunately it can also do a few bad things, like cause itchiness, burning, redness and peeling. That’s why Dermalogica came up with the brilliant idea to include a Buffer Cream to get your skin acclimated to the retinol.
The Buffer Cream (on the left) is a moisturizing cream formulated with vitamin E and aloe vera extract. Mix it with the retinol to control the concentration of retinol applied to the skin and reduce any likelihood of redness or irritation. As your skin gets used to the retinol, increase the concentration of retinol and cut back on the Buffer Cream.
I’ve been using the Overnight Retinol Repair for a few weeks, applying it on my entire face and neck each night. I even take any leftover in my hands to apply to the tops of my hands. I feel that the areas that tend to show age first are your face, neck and hands, so I try to moisturize and keep them protected, that way I can keep lying about my age. So far, I am loving the results! From the very first morning, I noticed my skin tone more even and my skin looking less fatigued. Although I don’t have many fine lines, I’m forever in prevention mode and will keep this little gem in my beauty arsenal to keep it that way.
Dermalogica Overnight Retinol Repair is available for $110.50 CAD and can be purchased online and in all Dermalogica locations.
