Saturday morning is my favourite time of the week. I wake up, have a little cuddle time with my beau, then head out for a workout. When I return home, that’s when things get really special! I take a long shower, then typically change into my coziest PJs, get my breakfast ready and dedicate some time for some much deserved pampering. Lately, I’ve been kind of obsessed with sheet masks. While I’ve been using these masks for quite a while now, I’ve recently found a few that I’ve fallen in love with. Now, sheet masks are a luxurious part of my weekly skin care routine, giving my skin a much needed boost of hydration and a beautiful glow each and every time I use them. Another reason I love sheet masks is because they are much less messy than the formulas you find in tubes or jars, which makes them perfect for travelling. Just peel the back off the mask, place the sheet mask on your face and let it sir for 15-20 minutes. Once the time is up, simple toss the sheet and work any excess product into your skin. Voilà!
The sheet mask trend is certainly catching on, so if you’re not sure where to dive in, here are a few of my current favourites to get you started.
Flora•py Beauty is my most recent discovery, but also my favourite at the moment. These masks are like nothing I’ve ever tried. Each mask is made from 100% coconut fibre and soaked in healing flowers and essential oils to soothe and hydrate skin. Unlike the typical cloth-like sheet masks most of us are use to, these are more of a soft gel-like texture that hold up to 5x their weight in water (hello hydration!). My favourite is the Arnica Rose Strength + Energy Mask. The arnica awakens and revives skin, gets rid of any puffiness and helps to clean pores, while the rose gives the mask its rich hydration power. As soon as I teared open the packaging, I fell in love with the amazing scent reminiscent of a soothing spa. It gave my skin the most pleasant refreshing feeling on my skin and left my skin feeling super soft and hydrated. I can’t wait to try the other formulas!
Sephora has also made its mark in the sheet mask world with their own collection of face masks and eye masks. I’ve tried both and love them both. Unlike the previous masks, these are soft natural fibre masks. Two of my favourites from the collection are the Lotus Mask, which is formulated to moisturize and sooth skin, and the Rose Mask, which is ultra moisturizing and brightening. Both give my skin an incredible boost of moisture and help to revitalize my face when I’m looking a little tired.
These two masks I discovered in a recent shopping trip in Boston (the things you discover in a foreign Sephora)! Dr. Jart+ Water Replenishment Mask is a cotton sheet mask that contains allantoin and witch hazel for long-lasting moisture, which is just the thing I need during the cold winter months. As soon as you apply the mask, you feel an immediate cooling sensation that is just so pleasant. It’s safe to use no matter what your skin type and leaves your skin feeling hydrated and refreshed.
I also love Karuna Hydrating+ Face Mask, perfect for when your skin is looking a little dry and dull. The mask is made from 100% natural fibres to help your skin absorb the ingredients. This particular mask is formulated with hyaluronic acid and peptides to renew skin, aloe vera and chamomile to hydrate and Chinese licorice and vitamin B to detoxify skin.
Even though these masks make you look like you’re the sister of Micheal Myers (here I am wearing the Flora•py Beauty mask), they are well worth the money for the immediate results they give.
