Self-confidence is a funny thing. It’s something that we are born with but that ends up being eroded over time through our experiences and interactions. I know that for myself there are definitely days when I wake up feeling larger than life, while on others I just feel like ass. To overcome these moments, I try to focus on all the wonderful things about myself and my life, no matter how big or small. There’s just something about realizing how wonderful life is that permeates the rest of your day. But aside from the obvious of focusing on the positive, here are a few other (more materialistic) things that help give my confidence an extra boost.
Focus on your achievements
You’ve already accomplished so much, don’t forget that. Make a list of the things you are most proud of and take a look at them whenever you feel you are sparkling a little less.
Apply a pretty lipstick
There’s something about the right lipstick shade that can really transform your attitude. While I’m usually into more nude shades, every once in a while I like to pull out my brighter shades. They are a little more high maintenance, but hey, it’s a small price to pay for that extra boost of confidence.
Always do your best
Approach every situation by giving it your best shot. Even though the outcome might not be what you wanted, you’ll be able to walk away knowing you did your best and that feel pretty damn good. Things happen for a reason anyway and in my experience, I’ve walked away knowing that things worked out in a way that was beneficial to me (even if it’s not always obvious at the time).
Find your best heels
They don’t have to be the highest or sexiest shoes you own, they just have to be the ones that make you feel amazing every time you slips them on. You know the feeling, when you have the right shoes and feel like you’re strutting through your day? Those are the shoes. It can impact your confidence and ultimately change your life (hey, it worked for Cinderella).
Face your fears
We all have things that we are afraid to do. But jumping out of our comfort zone is an amazing way to boost your confidence. It could be as small as having dinner alone or starting a conversation with a stranger. Whatever it is, once you overcome that initial fear, you’ll feel like you’re on top of the world.
Apply your favourite perfume
It took me about one year to find my perfect fragrance. It’s quite the commitment when you think about it, but every time I apply it, I feel feminine, beautiful and confident. Since then I’ve acquired a few more scents that I rotate depending on the season and the occasion. While one makes me feel carefree and easy going, another makes me feel in control and sexy. Scent affects our moods, influence the brain and ultimately affect our productivity.
Wear pretty lingerie
This might sound like the biggest cliché, but hear me out. Think about the last time you slipped into something silky and sexy. Now think about how it made you feel; feminine, sexy, confident. So why keep your pretty lingerie for special occasions? Every day is an opportunity to shine. For me, knowing that I’m wearing nice underwear makes me feel amazing. I’m not talking about lacy, uncomfortable lingerie (nothing kills confidence more than an ill-place thong). I mean pieces that are beautiful, confortable and make you feel like a million bucks.
