Facials are amazing! They are so good for your skin and all that pampering also works wonders for your mind and body. I try to get facials about four times a year as a way to help transition my skin into the next season. Yes, it can be considered a luxury. But I’m in a long-term relationship with my skin and I feel that the more attention and love I give it, the more it will love me back by looking radiant. So needless to say that any chance I get to give my skin (and myself) some love, I take!
I was invited to the Dr. Hauschka Spa in Montreal to experience their Classical Treatment, a holistic treatment that refreshes your skin, revitalizes your body and gives you an incredible sense of well-being. It was an incredible experience. I was greeted by Enaam Takla, the owner of Montreal’s Dr. Hauschka Spa. Her energy is amazing – warm, welcoming, soothing, nurturing – I love her already.
I walk into the treatment room, softly lit with candles and adorned with Egyptian figures, which have no relation to the brand, but bring about a feeling of calmness and wellness for Enaam. The setting instantly makes me forget the hustle and bustle of the city and calms my ever-anxious mind. The treatment begins with a warm sage foot bath. I dip my feel in the warm water, take in the scent of the essential oils and feel myself let go. I can’t help but wonder why I never bother to treat myself to foot baths at home.
Next, I get comfortable on the bed while Enaam makes sures I’m cozy under a few blankets. The body and face treatment is pure bliss. The skin is cleansed and pampered, the feet, arms, décolleté, chest and head are massaged with a technique that mimics the soft rolling of waves. It’s absolutely heavenly! I feel the tension in my body release as Enaam works her magic, stimulating my body’s energy points related to the skin. At the end of the treatment, I am almost sad that it’s over. I attempt to peel myself off of the bed, but decide to take it slow. I just want to bask in this feeling of absolute well-being as long as I can! So I take a moment to chat with Enaam about Dr. Hauschka, her philosophy on beauty and wellness, and the treatment I just can’t seem to forget.
What do you love most about your job?
When a client receives a Dr.Hauschka treatment for the first time, and sees and feels an obvious change. Before a treatment, sometimes they present me with skepticism and reluctance. But after receiving the experience, watching their face light up, see their own radiance, smiling with a relaxed face, their skin is all smooth and no longer reddening. Even physically, you can see that in their body language. They stand taller, they are more invigorated, stimulated and alive! Of course, the results sometimes vary according to the individual, but it is these physical, emotional and spiritual changes that I most often see in my clients after only two hours. That gives me the greatest pleasure and satisfaction as a professional.
What makes the Dr. Hauschka Classic Treatment so unique?
The Classical Treatment has been designed to provide both rest and relaxation, as well as to activate the skin’s regeneration processes. Our Dr.Hauschka treatments are distinguished by their quality, but also by the therapeutic properties of the Dr.Hauschka products used. The treatment combines a holistic approach with rhythmic body movements to invigorate the skin with regenerative forces and wellbeing.
The treatment incorporates different types of massages on the arms, legs, feet and face. What benefits do they have on the skin and overall wellbeing?
Rhythmic, lymphatic and therapeutic massages on the face, arms, legs, and feet strengthen the immune system, and promotes the wellbeing of your respiration and the regeneration of skin cells. To enhance the therapeutic effect of these massages, we use certified biodynamic and organic oils. While the foot massage stimulates the metabolic and reproductive system, the arm and décolleté massage stimulates the rhythmic system connected with the heart and lungs, allowing chest irrigation and inviting it to open up. Finally, the head massage calms the nervous system and irrigates the neck. Thanks to massages, the whole being is immersed in a state of harmony and balance, which is an ideal prelude to then begin a skin care treatment.
Is there anything that people can do at home after their treatment to maximize results?
I would recommend for them to use Dr.Hauschka products daily, to continue to clean, protect and moisturize the skin, while making sure to use exclusively non-oily care at night. In addition, it is important to apply a Dr. Hauschka mask once or twice a week.
What is the best piece of advice you can give for skin care and wellbeing?
The skin is a part of a whole. It is important to not only take care of your skin, but to think of it as part of a larger scale, incorporating regular exercise, keeping hydrated, eating healthy, etc. Ideally, we recommend a minimum of 5 treatments per year, or 12 treatments if you are more stressed, to preserve the skin and strengthen its regenerative system.
I would also recommend taking baths regularly using your favourite essential oils. It’s a great way to enhance relaxation and wellbeing, which help to relax your face. Practice visualisation, meditation, or contemplation daily for at least 20 to 30 minutes. The aim here is to give yourself some time and disconnect from the modern world. Let your creativity run free! Writing, painting, dancing or any kind of activity that you have a passion for. It will help you to relax. The most important thing to remember is that you should adopt a balanced and healthy lifestyle, and take care of your skin regularly. Be fully present when applying your products, to act with awareness.
What are your favorite Dr.Hauschka products?
That is a very difficult question to answer! I am sorry if this is disappointing, but without any hesitation, I would say that I love each of the Dr.Hauschka products. There is not one that I like more than another. I look at them as I would a beautiful garden. We love it as a whole because of the diversity, the happiness and benefits each plant can provide to us as a whole.
Any words of advice when it comes to keeping your skin looking beautiful?
Take the time to take care of yourself and your skin. Give it all the time needed, treat your skin with respect. Care for it as if it was a loved one.
