When it comes to makeup, I tend to gravitate towards what I like to call, understated elegance. I like to play up my features while sticking to earthy and natural tones. So when I got the chance to try the new goodies by essence cosmetics, I was excited to see that their fall/winter collection was filled with beautiful neutral eyeshadows and bright lip shades. Right up my alley! They have also introduced a few new products to the range, like mascaras and brow products, nourishing lip balms and a gorgeous highlighter that is quickly becoming my favourite everyday way to glow. If you haven’t tried essence cosmetics yet, I highly recommend you check them out. They have a collection is great quality products at such an affordable price. Trust me, there won’t be any choosing-between-two-shades situations anymore because you’ll be able to get both (or more)! And in more good news, you’ll now be able to shop for these goodies online! Affordable, quality makeup at the click of a button? I sense many online shopping moments to come!
The Gel Nail Polish
This gel nail polish gives your nails amazing gel polish shine without the lamp. Each of the 34 shades in the collection are beautifully opaque and lasts for days without chips. If you pick one of these up, you’ll want to also get the gel polish base coat and top coat for best results. Pictured here from left to right are Ice Cream Party, Be Awesome Tonight!, Dream On, Grey Zone, Free Hugs and Island Hopping.
I ♥ Trends
New in the nail collection are these polishes that deliver a porcelain finish that lasts for days. The collection is available in four shades, shown here from left to right are Blue Symphony, So In Love and Pretty Little Thing.
Eyeliners and Brows
When it comes to defining your eyes, perfecting your brows and making your shadow pop, everything you need is right here. The Smokey 2-in-1 Khôl Liner is an ultra-pigmented and ultra-versatile liner like I’ve never seen. One side has a pointed tip that can be used for more precise application or slanted to use as a shadow for a smoky effect. The formula is super creamy and blend so effortlessly. If you’re more of a perfectionist when it comes to your liner, the Dip Eyeliners are for you. The felt-tip applicator gives you control to create the perfect cat eye AND it also come in a waterproof formula. The Superfine Eyeliner Pen is another option if you want that cat eye effect. The super thin felt-tip pen makes it easy to create a subtle look or add drama is one fell swoop. Fuller brows are also on the menu with Make Me Brow Eyebrow Gel Mascara, a tinted gel that contains tiny fibres to fill in any sparse areas and give you more defined brows. And finally, the I ♥ Colour Intensifying Eyeshadow Base is a eyeshadow primer that also helps to show off your shadow’s true colour.
Forbidden Volume Mascaras
I may be demure when it comes to eyeshadow shades, not when it comes to my lashes. These mascaras deliver the serious volume that my lashes crave so much. Forbidden Volume Mascara has a conic-shaped brush to sweep the thickening formula from root to tip for amplified lashes. If you want even more, Forbidden Volume Mascara REBEL is for you. It has a thicker chaotic finer brush to boost volume even more than its sister mascara. One of the products I am most excited about is the Forbidden Volume Mascara False Lash Topcoat. You know that moment at the end of the day when you want to refresh your makeup before going out after work, but touching up your mascara does nothing but turn into a big clumpy mess? Well not with this topcoat. This mascara is designed to refresh your lashes. Simply swipe it over any mascara and your lashes will look like you just applied your mascara. It’s amazing!
Highlighter and Blush
I love a good pink blush and the Mosaic Blush doesn’t disappoint. The compact is literally a mosaic of pink shades that blend together to create a beautiful rosy cheek. I apply the blush to the apples of my cheeks and intensify the colour depending on my mood. Then I add the Pure Nude Highlighter to the apples of my cheeks, the bridge of my nose and my cupid’s bow for a natural glow. The highlighter is a beautiful rosy champagne shade that applied beautifully. It’s not as intense as other highlighters I’ve seen but that’s also why I love it so much. It’s the perfect pair for a daytime glow.
BB Beauty Balm Lipgloss
Beauty balms are having a moment and for good reason! These BB Beauty Balms deliver the shine of a lipgloss, the colour of a liquid lipstick but without the stickiness of most other glosses. They are enriched with shea butter and vitamin E to pamper your lips and have a slightly sweet scent. So if you’re sensitive to scents, you might want to swatch these before giving them a whirl.
Let me start by saying that these shadows are amazing! First of all, I absolutely love the shades. They are just so gorgeous and range from sheer coverage to complete coverage. The formula is so velvety soft (I really should have figured that one out from the name) and the shadows apply beautifully to the lid. I love the shades Fluffy Clouds, Smooth Caramel and Almost Peachy for an easy daytime look. And when I’m feeling a little more adventurous, I use one of the darker shades to blend into my crease. The shadows work so well together and blend so effortlessly.
Prettifying Lip Oil and Keep It Perfect! Makeup Fixing Spray
Another makeup trend that isn’t about to disappear are lip oils. I’ve fallen hard for lip oil and really love the Prettifying Lip Oil. I got the shade First Help, Pinky, which is a light pink shade. The formula melts into your lips giving them a beautiful shine with a hint of pink. It’s really a my-lips-but-better shade. It’s formulated with jojoba oil for extra moisture and isn’t the least bit sticky. And finally, no makeup application is complete without a makeup setting spray. A few sprays of the Keep It Perfect! Makeup Fixing Spray will keep your makeup looking flawless all day (or night).
There you have it! Something beautiful to look forward to when the weather starts getting colder again. Essence cosmetics is available at Shopper’s Drug Mart, Pharmaprix, Loblaws and at essence makeup.ca.
