Aside from my close friends and family, maybe no one else has really noticed. But the last month or so, I’ve taken a break from blogging. I closed my laptop, put away the camera, politely declined event invites and took some much needed time for myself. After blogging for more than 6 years, there are a number of reasons why I decided to take a step back, but for the sake of this post I’ll just share a few.
When I started this blog, I had no idea what it was going to become. I had no real direction in terms of content so I just pretty much wrote about the things that I found interesting, inspiring and sometimes just plain ridiculous. Over the next few years, I started to find my niche. I connected with other bloggers, collaborated with brands and got noticed by readers who genuinely found my content interesting. It was truly inspiring to know that other people were reading my blog and following it. But somewhere along the way, the passion that I poured into my blog started to fade. It no longer felt like a hobby, it felt like an obligation.
If you’ve been following me for a while then you know that the past year or so has been one of the most difficult times of my life. But with all tough times, life lessons are learned, and this is when I learned what was truly important to me. I didn’t care about being invited to events just to be seen. I didn’t care about trying to fit in and be liked by other bloggers. I didn’t care that I would be gifted products. Truth be told, it was all just too exhausting.
This summer I decided to take a step back and re-evaluate why I started blogging in the first place. I realized that it wasn’t to get free stuff in exchange for reviews (although it is nice!), it was to share what I was most passionate about in fashion and beauty, what I loved to indulge in whenever I cooked a meal, and the little things in life that made me smile every day. All that sprinkled with what I’ve learned navigating through life.
I’ve decided to go back to basics and take some time to refocus my blog on the things that matter to me most. I want to share my life and experiences in hopes that they will feed others with strength. I want to inspire others to live healthier lives through physical activity and nourishing foods. I want to make others feel more beautiful by sharing my style and beauty routine. I want to share my life in the hopes that it will inspire others.
