“Our food should be our medicine and our medicine should be our food.” – Hippocrates
Hey hey hey! It’s been a hot minute since my last post but with good reason. I’ve been taking a step back and learning to appreciate life after the numerous major changes that have occurred in my life. But I’m happy to say that life has been beautiful and I couldn’t be more grateful for all the amazing things that have come into my life. It’s true that they say… when things seem to be falling apart, they are often just falling into place.
If you follow me on Instagram (which you should), it’s clear that I’m a huge fan of Vital Proteins. I was first initiated to the brand with the Collagen Peptides that I would stir into my morning coffee and it changed my life in the best way possible.
If you are into wellness like I am, then there’s no doubt that you’ve heard of collagen peptides. If you are new to it, collagen is basically a protein supplement that also has a ton of other health benefits. Since I started incorporating collagen peptides in my diet, I’ve seen a huge difference in my digestion and gut health, and my hair, skin and nails have definitely become stronger. Needless to say, I’m obsessed!
So without further ado, let me introduce you to the Vital Proteins products that rock my world.
My gateway collagen product, I started using the unflavoured peptides in my coffee to give my diet and extra dose of protein, with the bonus of helping my digestion (not going to lie, I was also super enamoured with the idea of it helping my hair, skin and nails glow). I’ve had issues in the past with protein supplements messing with my digestion and I have to say that I’ve never had an issue with VP. One serving (2 scoops) has 18 grams of protein, 20 grams of collagen and just 70 calories. I usually add a scoop to my coffee, then another in my smoothie. You can even add it to dips, sauces, even water, and it blends in effortlessly. The Dark Chocolate Blackberry and Vanilla Coconut flavours also have a spot in my heart, especially when you add them to chocolate chip cookies.
GRASS FED GELATIN
I wish I had known the benefits of grass fed gelatin earlier. This isn’t your Jello gelatin. This one does wonders for gut health, digestion, nails, skin, joint health… the list goes on. In fact, 20 grams of gelatine has 17 grams of protein (what?!). Yes, it’s true. I often add this to my coffee (alternating with collagen peptides), but have also made peanut butter gummies with it. Although it has no flavour, one thing to note is that it blends super well in hot liquids but will solidify in cold liquids.
I know what you’re thinking, but don’t let the name fool you. The Beauty Waters have no artificial sweeteners, no stevia, no artificial flavours. They also contain a probiotic called Bacillus Coagulans and give you all of the amazing benefits of their other collagen products. I add a scoop to my water, but i’ve heard of people adding it to lattes, smoothies, and even bath water (it’s known to be amazing at hydrating and nourishing skin.
This product is magic (and probably one of my fave favourites). I absolutely love matcha and it’ now combined with collagen to make it the ultimate beauty product. Yes, I’ve used it as a matcha latte, but it’s also amazing in pancakes and waffles, oatmeal, cookies, and pretty much anything you can think of. I always have a few of the travel packs in my bag and desk at work.
