“Everyone you will ever meet knows something you don’t.” – Bill Nye
Let me start this post with a question – how do you start your day? For me, I try to hit the ground running – lemon water, gym, healthy breakfast, gratitude journal… and one other thing. Podcasts.
If you’re not on the podcast bandwagon, you need to get on that shit! There are soooo many good ones out there, I’m constantly updating my library with new ones. You can learn so much about pretty much anything or just chill out and listen to a story. I love them because while I typically listen to them while I do my makeup and get ready in the morning, you can pretty much listen to them anywhere.
Lately I’ve been really into podcasts that help to inspire me in my career or live a healthier life both mentally and physically. If you don’t know where to start (I know how overwhelming it can be to look for podcasts), here are a few recommendations. These are the podcasts I’ve been listening to over the past few months and absolutely love.
Wabi sabi 侘び寂ひ, さびわび: defined in Japanese as celebrating imperfection, acceptance of transience, and taking a different perspective on what may be seen as “imperfect.” The acceptance and adoration of imperfection. In her podcast, Candice Kumai shares her perfectly-imperfect experiences that have shaped her 15 years in publishing, wellness, fitness and food. Honest and raw, she recounts the lessons that have taught her to embrace her imperfections and struggles, and recognize the beauty that comes with accepting that life is perfectly imperfect. The Skinny Confidential Him & Her by Lauryn Evarts and Micheal Bosstick
Literally like happy hour with your best friends. This podcast is all about holding kale in one hand and Champagne in the other. In each episode, Lauryn Evarts and Micheal Bosstick sit down with a guest to have real and raw conversations about everything – entertainment, beauty, wellness, fitness, business, relationships… Some of my favourite guests have been Jillian Michaels, Dr. Denis Gross, Kristen Cavallari and Candice Kumai (naturally!). LadyGang with Keltie Knight, Becca Tobin and Jac Vanek
Get ready to laugh your ass off! The LadyGang is fabulous combination of Becca Tobin (formerly on Glee), Jac Vanek (clothing designer extraordinaire) and Keltie Knight (ET power correspondent). They are unfiltered, unapologetic and just amazing together. They talk about love, sex, health, working out, celebrity sightings, entertainment… the list goes on. One of my favourite parts of the shows is the Good Week/Bad Week where each of them share the best and worst moments of the week. It’s gold… pure comedy gold! LISTEN HERE
The Angry Therapist by John Kim
Therapy in a shot glass, that’s how John Kim describes his podcast. Driven by the understanding that we’re all fighting our own battle, Kim shares his own struggles as a way to connect with his audience. Instead of showering you with loads of theories and concepts, he gives you real talk and advice that you can actually use in your daily life. If you ever face issues in relationships, self-doubt, confidence, or just feel lost, these are 10 minutes that will definitely help better your life. LISTEN HERE
The Jillian Michaels Show
You can’t talk about health and fitness without thinking about Jillian Michaels. The fitness guru and her crew have real talk about relationships, health, fitness and all the struggles that come with it. I especially love the section at the end where she answers audience questions because it’s always something that you’ve wondered yourself. LISTEN HERE
