Whole Wheat Chocolate Chip Scones

Despite the random gorgeous warm days we’ve had recently, fall is officially upon us. And with that, my wicked baking addiction returns. I woke up on Sunday morning craving that warm aroma that can only come from something delicious baking in the oven. And so, I quietly got out of bed (my boyfriend still sound asleep) and tip toed to the kitchen to whip up a batch of whole wheat chocolate chip scones.

Whole Wheat Chocolate Chip Scones

With the exception of a few modifications, I basically followed this recipe and the results were nothing short of scrumptious.

Whole Wheat Chocolate Chip Scones

Simple and delicious, uncomplicated and rustic, just add a touch of butter and you have the perfect Sunday morning treat!

Lessons From Madame Chic :: Book Review & GIVEAWAY – CLOSED

What is it about French women? They always seem so effortlessly polished and impossibly chic, all the time. From their makeup and their hair, to their manners and appreciation for the finer things, they just have that certain je ne sais quoi. What’s their secret?

In the new book Lessons from Madame Chic, 20 Stylish Secrets I Learned While Living in Paris, Jennifer L. Scott shares the secrets she learned from the stylish French family she lived with in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, Famille Chic.

Scott MADAME CHIC jacket

This book was a great read! Neatly organized in sections three sections, “Diet and Exercise”, “Style and Beauty” and “How to Live Well”, Jennifer shows us how she  embraced the Parisian lifestyle  and learned to live simply with help from Madame Chic. To me, her book served as a reminder that finding pleasure in the little things and appreciation in what we have is all it takes to practice the art of living. From eating (don’t deprive yourself and enjoy every bite), style (the 10-item wardrobe), beauty (mastering the no-makeup look), organizing (clutter is so not chic) and life (reclaiming your feminity and treating each occasion as a special one), the book reminded me at what point, as North Americans, we tend to live a life filled with excess. We feel we constantly need this season’s shoes, the newest gadgets and that trending eye shadow shade. But do we really need it to feel chic?

After reading this book, I definitely took a look at my own closet/makeup collection/life and decided it was time to make a few changes. First, I revamped my makeup look to embrace the no-makeup look, and you know what? I feel like I look more polished and it takes me half the time to get ready to go to work! I also took a little time to go through my closet and finally get ride of those items that I’ve been holding on to thinking that maybe one day I’ll wear them. I also take pleasure in wearing those pieces I’ve been saving for a special occasion (don’t judge, you know you do it too)! Finally, I embraced the arts a little more. I’ve always loved visiting museums and discovering new artists, but it made me realize that i don’t make enough time for it. So first thing I did, watched my favourite movie and the authors, Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amélie Poulin (hey, it’s a start!).

This book is a wonderfully entertaining look at life in the chic lane direct from Paris. Each lesson is told with a humor and enthusiasm that at times made me laugh out loud.  All in all, a fabulous book that would easily make a great stocking stuffer!

Katy Perry Lashes by Eylure :: Review

I am a girly girl (yes, it’s true!). I love dressing up, trying new ‘dos, experimenting with different makeup looks. Even though, on a daily basis, my look is somewhat simple and natural. When I received the Katy Perry lashes by Eylure to review (newly available in Canada), I was so excited! I love Katy Perry and it’s so fitting that she have her own line of lashes. So here I was on a cold Saturday morning, armed with my Starbucks and four sets of lashes in front of me. It was time to experiment. I don’t have much experience when it comes to applying lashes, but it didn’t take long before I became a pro (or at least my version of one).

Katy Perry Lashes by Eylure

One might wonder, what inspired Katy Perry to venture into the lash business. Well, she explains, “I wore Eylure lashes all the way through my Teenage Dreams tour and really loved them. When it came to having a range of my own, I wanted everyone to have a great experience with my lashes. As they have such an amazing history and great quality, Eylure was really the best choice for me to work with.”

The girly design of the lashes and the vintage feel of the packaging ooze Katy’s personal style. The collection includes four sets of lashes, from the ultra sexy to the super sweet, perfect for day or night.

A dainty and natural lash that adds subtle length and volume to your lashes.

Katy Perry Lashes by Eylure Oh Honey! Oh, Honey!

A flattering, full lash, textured for a natural finish but with enough oomph to take your lashes from fine to fab.

Katy Perry Lashes by Eylure Cool Kitty Cool Kitty

These make your eyes look amazing! Gorgeous framing with manicured tips, they can be worn during the day to be daring or at night for the perfect finishing touch.

Katy Perry Lashes by Eylure Oh My! Oh, My!

The name says it all! These lashes are big and beautiful with a layered effect. All the texture you want in a lash but still flattering and so very wearable.

I admit that at first sight, the Oh,My! lashes kind of scared me, but after applying them and wearing them for a little while, I really fell in love with them. They give that ultra glam look perfect for a night out. I also loved Cool Kitty, which gave me the extra volume and length that I love without the obvious fake look. Each lash set comes with it own glue which applies easily and with no mess thanks to its application wand. I’m definitely excited to wear these on my next night out!

Katy Perry Lashes by Eylure retail for $7.99 CAD and are available at Shoppers Drug Mart, London Drugs, Jean Coutu, london Drug and on Ebeauty.ca.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Kisses On My List :: Review

You know the anticipation and excitement you get right before you open a Christmas gift? You shake the package and try to guess what it is, then when you can take it anymore you rip open the package to reveal its contents, then you smile. You never imagined it could be so wonderful! Well that’s the feeling I had when I received the Anastasia Beverly Hills Holiday 2012 collection. I adore Anastasia HydraFull lipglosses! So when I received the Kisses On My List kit, I was like a kid on Christmas morning.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Kisses On My List The Kisses On My List kit includes six high-shine lipglosses, four shimmery and two matte. Three of these shades are soft, sheer glosses, while three are Hypercolor Glosses. Wanna hear the cool part? The Hypercolor formula is clinically proven to improve the texture and appearance of your lips. What’s even cooler? It also reacts with your skin’s chemistry to stain your lips a custom hue that is all your own.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Kisses On My List kitThe spectrum of shades included in this kit is amazing. I mean, if you have this kit, what other shades do you really need? The shades range from bright pink, peachy coral to pinkish nudes – all very wearable for day or night.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Kisses On My List kitThe shades included are (from left to right) Lola (a cool pink), Jolene (a bright pink with shimmer), Sharona (a peachy shade with shimmer), Roxanne (a shimmery gold), Moi (a creamy sheer pink) and Maggie May (a creamy sheer nude), which has since become my new favourite nude gloss.

No matter how many lipsticks I own, i will always be a lipgloss girl. I love the polished look i get the instant I swipe that wand across my lips. Since I have received these, there isn’t another gloss i reach for (sorry, MAC). The colours are gorgeous, the formula is long-lasting and I just love the way it feels on my lips. Plus, they don’t have that strong scent many glosses tend to have. The only thing that bothered me in the beginning was the silicon applicator, a minor detail when it comes to these fantastic glosses.

You can read more reviews of Anastasia Beverly Hills products here, here, here, here and here.

I want to give a shout out to the fabulous people at The Confluence and Anastasia Beverly Hills for sending these to me for review.

The Anastasia Beverly Hills Kisses On My List kit is available for $39 (CAD) at Sephora stores and online.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Want You To Want Me :: Review

If I look back at past decades, I have to say that the 70s are one of my favourite eras. Farrah Fawcett, Bianca Jagger, Ali Macgraw – there was no shortage of style icons. So when I saw that the Anastasia Beverly Hills Holiday 2012 collections were inspired by the iconic era, I was in love! I am pleased to introduce you to the first review of the holiday collection, the Want Me To Want You kit.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Want You To Want Me eyeshadow paletteFirst of all, photos cannot do justice as to the beauty of this eyeshadow palette. The palette is a collection of nine supremely pigmented shimmery and matte shades, all housed in a mirrored rich black velvet case. The kit also includes a black liquid eye liner, a clear brow gel and a double-sided eye shadow brush. All these goodies pack up nicely in another black velvet clutch with magnetic closure.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Want You To Want Me eyeshadow paletteThe shades are gorgeous (and somewhat reminiscent of my beloved Urban Decay Naked palette). The shades included are (from top left to right), Platform Wedge, Front Row Center and Ziggy. In the middle row (from left to right), Members Only, Power Ballad and Jellies. And finally the bottom row (you guessed it, from left to right), Graphic T’s, Brass in Pocket and Iron On. Aside from the fun names given to these shadows, the shades are so versatile. I’ve created amazing nighttime looks using three or four colours, but have also swept one shade across my lid for a simple daytime look. Plus, they stay beautiful all day long, even on days when I forgot to apply my Urban Decay Primer Potion.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Want You To Want Me eyeshadow palette swatchesWant to hear something else that’s fun? These shadows can be worn dry for a sheer wash of colour, or wet for a more bold metallic finish (or even as eyeliner). Here they are in the same order as I mentioned above swatched dry.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Want You To Want Me liquid liner and brow gel

The black liquid liner is easy to use (assuming you have experience in applying liquid liner) and glides on smoothly to create that perfect winged look. I adore how it goes on in a thin line which makes it easy to build up for a more dramatic look. The clear brow gel sets brows in place without turning flaky or crunchy.

The verdict? I love this palette! I’ve been wearing these shades every day since I received the palette. It’s the perfect mix of neutrals and purples (perfect for green eye gals like me), matte and shimmer. The pigmentation is incredible and each shadow swipes on easily with very minimal fallout. From the endless possibility of looks I can create with it, to the crease-free (I’m not kidding) long-lasting formula, it may have very well become my favourite palette in my collection!

I would like to say a big thank you to the fabulous people at The Confluence and Anastasia Beverly Hills for sending me these products for review. On another note, can you believe we are already talking about the holidays!

New Hardware From Etsy

We all have our guilty pleasures and mine is jewelry. While i love to invest in a nice piece of fine jewelry every one in a while, the thing i love most is statement jewelry. Especially the kind made by lesser known artisans who do it for the love of their craft. And my mecca for these types of pieces? Etsy, of course! Check out the latest additions to my collection.

Etsy chunky chain link gold bracelet with leather tasselThese two pieces come from my new favourite seller on Etsy, sewsephine. Her designs are simple, yet have that little something extra that makes me take notice. The bracelet on the left is a lightweight gold chain link bracelet with a cute leather tassel. The one on the right is a hot pink leather wrap bracelet with a swingy gold tassel. They are both cute on their own, but i love to layer them with other bracelets to give it a more personalized look.

Etsy pink leather wrap braceletI can’t stress enough about the quality of these bracelets. Not only are they super affordable, but they are so well made. Plus, her store is stocked full of equally cute styles in a rainbow of colours. Seriously, picking out just two was a difficult feat. In fact, I will be back for more!

Etsy sewsephine braceletsI apologize for the low quality of this last photo. It was a little difficult keeping the tassels still while I took the photo (I shoulda used Sport mode)!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to all those who celebrate!

Whether you have a big feast planned with family and friends, or are spending a quiet day at home, I hope you spend the day being happy.

Life is full of ups and downs and sometimes it’s easy to loose sight of the things that truly make us happy. So take a moment today to think about the things that you are grateful for (you usually realize that it’s the little things).

To all my readers, thank you for your support. Without you, my blog would cease to exist. :)

What are you most thankful for?

Sephora + Pantone Lip Lustre Lipsticks

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, chances are that you’ve hear about Sephora + Pantone Universe. The collection of lipsticks, lipglosses eye shadows has created quite the buzz since it’s launch with the colour of the year Tangerine Tango. The most buzzed about beauty these days is the Lip Luster Lipsticks.

Sephora-+-Pantone-Universe-Lip-Luster-LipsticksFirst of all, I have to admit that I am a sucker for chic and creative packaging. I love the simplicity of the sleek, white tube that mirrors the actual product. Now, the last thing I need is another lipstick/lip balm in my beauty stash. But these are so pretty! They are dual-chambered lipsticks that combine rich, bold pigment with the moisture of a lip balm. So it’s essentially two steps in one. Since I haven’t tried them yet, I can’t say much about the scent and taste of the product (a huge factor in lip products in my book), but my sources say that they have a pleasant peach-mango flavour.

The Sephora + Pantone Universe Lip Luster Lipsticks are available in five beautiful fall shades: Almost Apricot (a glittery irridescent pink), Tangerine Tango (a glittery sunset orange), Cayenne (a glittery pepper red), Claret Red (a glittery carnation pink) and Raspberry Radiance (a glittery dahlia mauve). You can find them at Sephora stores and Sephora.com for $22 CAD (ouch!).

Anastasia of Beverly Hills :: See and Be Seen Set Review

I know, I’ve been the worst blogger. I haven’t spoken to you guys and gals in over a month! Blame it on the job and the social life that both seem to have gotten out of hand. But I’m back, fresh from a much needed vacation with an awesome beauty review!

I came home from my 10-day getaway at my boyfriend’s family’s cabin to find a wonderful package at my door – the Anastasia of Beverly Hills See and Be Seen Set. What is this set, you ask? Well let me tell you!

Anastasia of Beverly Hills See and Be Seen Set This cute set might be tiny but it definitely packs a punch. It includes two full-size Hydrafull Glosses in Heiress and Plastic, a full-size Tinted Brow Gel in Caramel (and you all know that Anastasia is the Queen of Brows), and a full-size Illumin8 Eyeshadow Duo in On Set.

THE REVIEW

Anastasia of Beverly Hills Hydrafull Glosses & Tinted Brow Gel Swatches

The Glosses

I have grown to really love Anastasia glosses. They glide on smoothly and give just the right amount of colour payoff without the usual stickiness and stinkiness of other glosses. Don’t be fooled (or scared) by the brightness of each shade (right – Heiress, middle – Plastic) . They are so wearable and give a jelly-like finish. They also seem to last a long time (no joke, I put it on before going in the shower and it was still there when I stepped out!). Once the glossiness wore off, I was left with a beautiful lip stain! The one thing I don’t like about the Hydrafull glosses is the weird paddle-like applicator. I much prefer a sponge-tip applicator when it comes to my glosses. Both shades are limited edition and exclusive to this kit.

The Tinted Brow Gel

My first thought when I saw the shade (left in photo above) was “Wow, I’ve never wanted to have blonde brows!”. Until now, I was always afraid of brow gels because I thought that they would give my brows a weird crunchy tint. Surprise surprise! Fortified with botanical hair conditioners and essential oils, not only did it not make my brows go crunch crunch, but the shade was perfect for me! I applied it in the morning and it made my brows look natural and polished all day. The con: I can’t promise that it would suit all brow colours, so don’t forget to swatch before you buy!

Anastasia of Beverly Hills Illumin8 Eyeshadow Duo

The Eyeshadow Duo

The shades are gorgeous and reminiscent of shades from my Urban Decay palette. These earthy shade give a beautiful glow to the eyes, perfect for that effortless summer look. The texture is soft and smooth, and blends so easily. The colour payoff is amazing and with a good base (big up to my Urban decay Primer Potion!), they last all day without creasing or fading.

THE VERDICT

I love everything about this set! The glosses give just the right amount of colour without the sticky stink that many other glosses have. The tinted brow gel has become one of my new favourites for a quick and easy polished look. And the eyeshadows are gorgeous and versatile. All in all, this set is a value of $80 USD and offered at a suggested retail price of $40 USD, and is well worth the price. I definitely recommend you check it out. (Psst! It makes a great gift too!)

Plus I give the marketing company props for coming up with a super unique way of providing product info. Made me feel like a kid again!

Nothing Like Some R&R

A little R&R does wonders to cure stress. Well, at least temporarily! Wait a second, I’m not talking about rest and relaxation, I’m talking about Rachel Roy, one of my favourite designers. The simplicity and uniqueness of her pieces always hit a soft spot. Here are the newest pieces that have found there way in my jewelry collection.

Rachel Roy jewelryI’m going to be a real girl about this and say that I hate bugs. Seriously, this is the only way to get me this close to these creepy crawlies.

Rachel Roy jewelryBeautiful butterflies add a subtle pop of colour.

Rachel Roy jewelryLight green (I want to say) beetles are the perfect alternative to my usual gold studs.
