Sephora + Pantone Lip Lustre Lipsticks

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, chances are that you’ve hear about Sephora + Pantone Universe. The collection of lipsticks, lipglosses eye shadows has created quite the buzz since it’s launch with the colour of the year Tangerine Tango. The most buzzed about beauty these days is the Lip Luster Lipsticks.

Sephora-+-Pantone-Universe-Lip-Luster-LipsticksFirst of all, I have to admit that I am a sucker for chic and creative packaging. I love the simplicity of the sleek, white tube that mirrors the actual product. Now, the last thing I need is another lipstick/lip balm in my beauty stash. But these are so pretty! They are dual-chambered lipsticks that combine rich, bold pigment with the moisture of a lip balm. So it’s essentially two steps in one. Since I haven’t tried them yet, I can’t say much about the scent and taste of the product (a huge factor in lip products in my book), but my sources say that they have a pleasant peach-mango flavour.

The Sephora + Pantone Universe Lip Luster Lipsticks are available in five beautiful fall shades: Almost Apricot (a glittery irridescent pink), Tangerine Tango (a glittery sunset orange), Cayenne (a glittery pepper red), Claret Red (a glittery carnation pink) and Raspberry Radiance (a glittery dahlia mauve). You can find them at Sephora stores and for $22 CAD (ouch!).

Anastasia of Beverly Hills :: See and Be Seen Set Review

I know, I’ve been the worst blogger. I haven’t spoken to you guys and gals in over a month! Blame it on the job and the social life that both seem to have gotten out of hand. But I’m back, fresh from a much needed vacation with an awesome beauty review!

I came home from my 10-day getaway at my boyfriend’s family’s cabin to find a wonderful package at my door – the Anastasia of Beverly Hills See and Be Seen Set. What is this set, you ask? Well let me tell you!

Anastasia of Beverly Hills See and Be Seen Set This cute set might be tiny but it definitely packs a punch. It includes two full-size Hydrafull Glosses in Heiress and Plastic, a full-size Tinted Brow Gel in Caramel (and you all know that Anastasia is the Queen of Brows), and a full-size Illumin8 Eyeshadow Duo in On Set.

Anastasia of Beverly Hills Hydrafull Glosses & Tinted Brow Gel Swatches

The Glosses

I have grown to really love Anastasia glosses. They glide on smoothly and give just the right amount of colour payoff without the usual stickiness and stinkiness of other glosses. Don’t be fooled (or scared) by the brightness of each shade (right – Heiress, middle – Plastic) . They are so wearable and give a jelly-like finish. They also seem to last a long time (no joke, I put it on before going in the shower and it was still there when I stepped out!). Once the glossiness wore off, I was left with a beautiful lip stain! The one thing I don’t like about the Hydrafull glosses is the weird paddle-like applicator. I much prefer a sponge-tip applicator when it comes to my glosses. Both shades are limited edition and exclusive to this kit.

The Tinted Brow Gel

My first thought when I saw the shade (left in photo above) was “Wow, I’ve never wanted to have blonde brows!”. Until now, I was always afraid of brow gels because I thought that they would give my brows a weird crunchy tint. Surprise surprise! Fortified with botanical hair conditioners and essential oils, not only did it not make my brows go crunch crunch, but the shade was perfect for me! I applied it in the morning and it made my brows look natural and polished all day. The con: I can’t promise that it would suit all brow colours, so don’t forget to swatch before you buy!

Anastasia of Beverly Hills Illumin8 Eyeshadow Duo

The Eyeshadow Duo

The shades are gorgeous and reminiscent of shades from my Urban Decay palette. These earthy shade give a beautiful glow to the eyes, perfect for that effortless summer look. The texture is soft and smooth, and blends so easily. The colour payoff is amazing and with a good base (big up to my Urban decay Primer Potion!), they last all day without creasing or fading.

I love everything about this set! The glosses give just the right amount of colour without the sticky stink that many other glosses have. The tinted brow gel has become one of my new favourites for a quick and easy polished look. And the eyeshadows are gorgeous and versatile. All in all, this set is a value of $80 USD and offered at a suggested retail price of $40 USD, and is well worth the price. I definitely recommend you check it out. (Psst! It makes a great gift too!)

Plus I give the marketing company props for coming up with a super unique way of providing product info. Made me feel like a kid again!

Nothing Like Some R&R

A little R&R does wonders to cure stress. Well, at least temporarily! Wait a second, I’m not talking about rest and relaxation, I’m talking about Rachel Roy, one of my favourite designers. The simplicity and uniqueness of her pieces always hit a soft spot. Here are the newest pieces that have found there way in my jewelry collection.

Rachel Roy jewelryI’m going to be a real girl about this and say that I hate bugs. Seriously, this is the only way to get me this close to these creepy crawlies.

All-Natural Almond Butter

A while ago I tried all-natural peanut butter and fell in love. No salt, no preservatives, just peanuts and so delicious! I think that since I have made the switch from the preservative-ladden to the kind with just one ingredient, my obsession with peanut butter has got even worse. One magical day, I found out how easy to make almond butter from home. In fact, it’s so easy that I don’t think I’ll ever buy almond butter (or peanut butter) ever again. And it’s so delicious that I’ve been literally eating it by the spoonful. I know you’re judging me right now, but I don’t care!

Homemade almond butterHomemade almond butter

All you need to get started is 2 cups of unsalted almonds.  Spread them out in on a cookie sheet in one layer and pop them in the oven at 350 for about 10-12 minutes. You want them golden brown on the inside so don’t be shy to bite into one to check (I promise you’ll be blown away by the flavour), then let them cool. Once cooled, place the almonds in a blender or food processor and blend away until they are ground. You’ll need to stop and scrape the sides of the blender quite often, but just keep blending. Within minutes, the oil from the almonds is released and the mixture starts to get smooth and creamy. And voilà, homemade almond butter!

There are a number of variations that you can add once you have your almond butter – add a 1/2 cup of melted dark chocolate chips for delicious chocolate almond butter (perfect to snack on with apple slices or strawberries). You can also add 1/2 tablespoon of vanilla extract, 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon and 1 tablespoon of olive oil for a vanilla almond butter.

What add-ins do you love most in your almond butter?

Simple Things!

Ohhhh, it’s been a while. Life has been a busy thing for me ever since the beginning of the year. With all the changes in my life, it’s been a challenge finding balance in my work life, personal life and everything in between. And throughout these ups and downs, one tends to lose sight of the little things that make you happy and make life worth living. After all, these are the things that will truly make you happy. Here are a few of the things that are making me smile these days!

The Body Shop Mange ScrubThe Body Shop Mango Scrub, by far the best body scrub I’ve used. I have yet to find something that hydrates my ultra dry skin and leaves it smelling so yummy.

Sunny Sunday

I love Sunday mornings. The moment I wake up I feel like time is standing still. And for me, it’s the only day that it is since Saturdays are usually filled with errands and cleaning and organizing and planning and… well, you get the idea. Last Sunday was so wonderful. Not only did I wake up to the sun beaming through the windows (a wonderful way for Mrs. Sunshine to welcome me to the day), but the weather was an absolutely beautiful 23 degrees. I started the day with a casually late brunch with my friend Ziggy, whom I haven’t seen in what feels like ages (feta omelet and Iranian tea!), and continued the day with our usual ritual of browsing shops on the Plateau. I did a great job with my self-control, but did treat myself with a few goodies!

Sunday Purchases - MAC Cosmetics AldoIt’s amazing the power that a lipstick can have. A simple swipe of the perfect shade can make you feel like a new person. This is the way this super simple shade makes me feel. I walked into the MAC store, told the makeup artist I was looking for the perfect pink ( a sentiment she seemed to share), and like magic, she produced Brave, also know as the perfect pink (for me).

I also picked up Teddy eyeliner, a beautiful shimmery bronze shadow I have been obsessed with ever since I saw a friend as work wearing it.

Last but not least, a beautiful long necklace from Aldo, embellished with three white horns and two white feathers. The perfect final touche to pretty much any outfit.

How was your Sunday?

Buttermilk Quick Bread!

To some, the term “quick bread” might seem like somewhat of an oxymoron. The kneading, the time to rise, time to bake… there’s nothing quick about baking a loaf of bread. That’s why I am so happy to have found this recipe for quick bread! The wonderful thing about this recipe is that not only is it super simple, but the page offers 10 variations of the delicious bread, from the very sweet to the ultra savoury.

Buttermilk Quick BreadIf you are looking to whip up some baked goodness on the fly, then this is the recipe for you. The basic recipe can be enjoyed with so many different meals (think hearty soups and chili). Add a little fruit, nuts, spices or chocolate chips and you have a delicious treat for breakfast or dessert! So far I have made the apple cinnamon loaf (pictured) and the blueberry loaf and they are both super scrumptious without being overly sweet. The bonus: no one will know how easy it was to bake so get ready to impress!

Have different variations you are tempted to try or have already baked? I would love to hear your suggestions!

Anastasia is a Lash Genius!

Every once in a while I come across a beauty product I never knew existed. This is one of those products – the Anastasia of Beverly Hills Lash Genius Waterproof Top Coat.

Anastasia of Beverly Hills Lash Genius Waterproof Top CoatAnastasia of Beverly Hills Lash Genius Waterproof Top Coat

The product promises to instantly waterproof, refresh and protect any mascara all day without drying or clumping. This colourless top coat can be worn over any mascara to extend the wear of your mascara and prevent it smudging or melting (perfect for those hot summer days)!

Anastasia of Beverly Hills Lash Genius Waterproof Top CoatTHE VERDICT

I love the concept of this product, especially since not every mascara comes in a waterproof version. I’m also somewhat of a mascara hoarder, so being able to instantly waterproof any of the formulas I have is a definite bonus. I tried Lash Genius for a few days and I have to say that I love the fact that it prevented my mascara from smudging at the end of the day (a day that doesn’t end with raccoon eyes is a good day!). Taking it off at the end of the day was not any more difficult than taking off a regular mascara. Of course, I used my Bioderma Sensibio H20 makeup remover (which is by far the best remover out there) and a few swipes of a cotton pad was enough to remove all product from my lashes (no rubbing required, yay!).

Would I buy this product? Probably! While I don’t see Lash Genius as a must-have in my beauty kit, it is one of those “little luxuries” I would treat myself with.

Anastasia of Beverly Hills Lash Genius Waterproof Top Coat is available at Sephora in May 2012 and retails for $21.

Spring Colours!

Last week Montreal got a really great glimpse into what spring has to offer. The warmer weather melted most of the snow and suddenly, layers were coming off, boots we replaced with spring shoes and the sunglasses were out! Then a storm came and dropped 20 cm of snow on the city. So now we are back to winter. But that doesn’t mean I haven’t caught spring fever! Now I’m all about bright colours. Case in point, my new polishes!

Spring Polishes - Essie OPII’m so ready to ditch the dark reds and deep plums for these bright hues! I am loving all the pastel shades I’m seeing on the runways and in the glossy pages of magazines, so needless to say I was quite influenced.

Spring Polishes - OPI Petal Faster SuziFirst up, OPI in Petal Faster Suzi from the 2012 Holland Collection! I’m not usually a fan of bright pink polishes, but after Googling it to find swatches, I just couldn’t resist. It’s a beautiful lavender pink shade with tiny silver and pink flecks.

Spring Polishes - Essie A Crewed InterestSecond, Essie’s A Crewed Interest from the Navigate Her Collection. I didn’t have anything like this in my collection. A beautiful creamy peachy nude shade. It’s light enough to be super versatile, yet different enough to be eye catching. This has quickly found it’s place as my favourite polish.

Spring Polishes - Essie Peach DaiquiriLast but not least, Essie’s Peach Daiquiri. This is not a new shade, in fact it’s part of Essies’s permanent collection. I’ve had my eye on it for so long, but didn’t see the point in purchasing it in the dead of winter. I have a few shades of coral in my collection, however this shade has ore fushia in it. So bright, so summer!

What are your favourite spring polishes?

Deborah Lippmann Strips!

Ok ok, so I realize that the title of this post is quite misleading, but it’s not entirely untrue! Last week I was sent the newest addition to the Deborah Lippmann nail collection by to test out and review, The Stripper To Go Nail Lacquer Remover Finger Mitts. I didn’t really know what to expect with these but I was really excited to try them nonetheless. And what to say… in a nutshell, Deborah has made it easy for me to strip anywhere!

Deborah Lippmann Stripper To GoAt first sight, these little packets are so perfect for travel. Gone are the days when I would tote around my bottle of polish remover and my cotton pads that, when removed from my makeup case, would be spotted with various types of makeup. Now no matter where I am, I can rip one of these babies open and a swap polishes quickly.

Deborah Lippmann Stripper To GoThe mitt fits well onto your finger and a few quick swipes is all it takes to remove even the toughest polish (yes, I’m talking about glitter polish). A bonus is the soothing lavender scent. I’ve always hated the smell of polish removers, but this scent is really fresh without being overpowering. It’s a nice touch and turns removing polish away from home into a mini spa treatment!

I have nothing but good things to say about these. They are easy to carry with you, smell great and get the job done. what more do you need from a nail polish remover?! These have definitely found a permanent place in my beauty kit!
